For: Cirque du Soleil
Behind the sculpted figures in the windows of the gallery, larger-than-life black and white video of the sculptor at work plays. It illuminates the night. Our eye is caught. We are drawn to the gallery by the motion of the artist as he captures the lithe, muscular forms of acrobats and dancers in clay.
Moment Factory was asked by Cirque du Soleil to create a public presence and draw attention to the work of sculptor Richard MacDonald. The aim was to attract passersby into the Cirque du Soleil's two fine art galleries and raise awareness and appreciation of MacDonald's work.
Moment Factory created a rear projection system that could be controlled by the gallery. The screens retracted into the ceiling during the day. At night, the screens and projections brought life to the Crystals Place gallery's glass facade and surrounding street, inviting passersby to engage with MacDonald's work. Three different videos were created to illustrate the exhibition.
